NDT Nord Oy specializes in non-destructive testing (NDT) services for industry, construction and the offshore sector. All our inspectors are certified NDT professionals according to SFS-EN ISO 9712. We operate primarily in the Turku region but serve clients throughout Finland.

Our Services
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Ultrasonic testing uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws. Angle probing is used for weld inspection and straight probing for base material inspection and thickness measurement. The method is highly accurate for detecting planar defects such as cracks and tears. Applicable for material thicknesses from 8 mm upwards.
Radiographic Testing (RT)
Radiographic testing clearly reveals all types of defects in the test object. Radiation penetrates the material and forms an image on film or a digital detector. The method is particularly effective for detecting volumetric defects such as porosity and inclusions. Defects can be accurately classified by their shape and location.
Corrosion Mapping (RT)
Corrosion mapping uses radiography to illuminate the full profile of a pipe. Wall thickness can be measured from the image. Used for maintenance monitoring of piping systems.
Thickness Measurement (UT)
Thickness measurement is performed using the ultrasonic method. Measurements can also be carried out through painted surfaces. Applications include pipelines, tanks, vessels and ships.
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Magnetic particle testing is suitable for detecting surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. The test object is magnetized and iron powder is applied to the surface. Weld defects disturb the magnetic field and attract powder, making the defect visible. White paint serves as a contrast background for black magnetic powder. Fluorescent magnetic particle testing can also be used in darkened conditions, eliminating the need for a background coating and speeding up the process significantly.
Penetrant Testing (PT)
Penetrant testing involves applying a colored or fluorescent liquid to the surface, which penetrates surface-breaking defects by capillary action. Excess liquid is removed and developer is applied, drawing the trapped penetrant back to the surface for visibility. The method is used mainly on stainless steel and aluminium components.
Visual Testing (VT)
Visual testing involves assessing weld quality visually. Weld throat dimensions (A-measurements) are measured and weld profiles are evaluated for their effect on structural integrity. All work is carried out according to applicable standards or the customer’s own quality requirements.
IWS – Welding Quality Supervision & Welding Coordination
We provide International Welding Specialist (IWS) services and welding coordination. Our qualified welding coordinator ensures that welding procedures meet the requirements of applicable standards and customer specifications. Ask us about welding-related quality assurance!
